Probably the largest local music fest in the U.S., it showcases around 200 Michigan Music Artists at approx 15 venues over 4 nights. Tickets are wristbands, $20 each, advance or ONLY available for purchase during Blowout at the Gates of Columbus and at Detroit Threads. Wristbands may also be purchased at the Blowout Pre-party, happening at the Majestic in Detroit. That one wristband will get you into each venue, every night including the Launch Party. Show is Free, Donations to JDRF will be accepted, plus there is a silent auction. Bands are donating their time to this great cause. Jake's Music Festival was started by Tom and Mary Scheidel of Rockford and named for their son Jake who was diagnosed with Type 1, also known as juvenile diabetes, when he was only six. Detroit Blues Challenge 2012 – Applications are Being Accepted (as of December 18, 2011) for the 2012 Detroit Blues Challenge. various rounds of competition culminating with the Finals in October. Blues Challenge is Annual. Winner goes to the IBC International Blues Challenge in Memphis.
"April in the D" Annual Song Contest – Submit Songs by end of January, then public votes online for winner. Winning song will become FOX Sports Detroit's April in the D theme song and will be used to promote Tigers, Wings and Pistons games all month long. The winner will also receive $5,000.

William C. Byrd Young Artist Competition – Finals (Strings) March 3, 2012 in Flint.
"Young artists from throughout the world compete for a grand prize of $6,000 plus an opportunity to perform with the Flint Symphony Orchestra. Held annually on the first Saturday of March, competition is sponsored by the St. Cecilia Society in collaboration with the Flint Institute of Music and the Flint Symphony Orchestra." Competition rotates annually between four disciplines.
