Fest features "Live Blues" at many venues. On Friday and Saturday nights, there will be a shuttle bus running between all the venues. Festival donates proceeds to charity.

January 29-30, 2010: 33rd Ann Arbor Folk Festival - at Hill Auditorium in Ann Arbor.

The Ark's largest annual fundraising event with some of the finest in traditional and contemporary artists. Each night will feature a blend of renowned and up-and-coming performers, providing audiences with the opportunity to hear popular artists working at the top of their field while discovering terrific new talent. All funds raised through the Festival benefit The Ark, Ann Arbor's non-profit home for folk, roots, and ethnic music.

February 3-7, 2010: 13th Annual Sphinx Competition and Finals Concert - in Ann Arbor and Detroit.

Competition is open to all Junior High, High School, and College age Black and Latino string players residing in the U.S. The Finals Concert is hosted by the Detroit Symphony at the Max M. Fisher Music Center in Detroit.

February 5, 2010 (fri): Haiti Relief - a 12 Hour Open Mic with Live Worldwide Streaming - 4pm till 4am at the Phoenix Cafe in Hazel Park, located at 24918 John R Rd, Hazel Park, MI 48030 (just north of Detroit). March 3-6, 2010 (wed-sat): Annual Metro Times Blowout - in Hamtramck (just north of Downtown Detroit).

Probably the largest local music fest in the U.S., it showcases around 200 Michigan Music Artists at 15 venues over 4 nights. Tickets are wristbands, $20 each, advance or at the door. That one wristband will get you into each venue, every night including the Launch Party on wednesday at the Majestic Theatre and Magic Stick, located next to each other in Detroit. March 13, 2010 (sat): Bluescasters CD Release Party - in Ann Arbor at Guy Hollerin's, which is inside the Ann Arbor Holiday Inn on Plymouth Road just west of US-23. We recorded our now released live CD at Hollerin's... and now we're gonna blow the proverbial doors offin da' joint with our CD Release Party! "A 13 day, 312 hour, non-stop tribute to The American Worker and Manufacturing". In 2009, the Assembly Line Concert set a Guinness World Record for concert longevity, at 288 non-stop hours.

March 21, 2010 (sun): Trenton Roar on the River Battle of the Bands 2010 - in Southgate (Downriver Detroit).

Sponsored by West Michigan Bluegrass Music Association, it features a national act and some local and regional bluegrass groups, plus workshops. "There will be plenty of picking and grinning throughout the festival grounds all weekend. TBA 2010 (fri-sat): Jazz In The Village - in Sarnia, Canada (across from Port Huron). A Sarnia Organ Donor's Awareness Group annual event. Local jazz musicians and out-of-town guest groups.



CONCERT SERIES AND MUSIC SERIES Throughout Michigan

White Crow Conservatory of Music - in Saginaw. Main Concert Season (five days a week) runs from Sept thru May. It also has workshops and full day festivals throughout the year. wccm on myspace

Chamber Music Series at the Scarab Club 2008/2009 - in Detroit. 11th season, October through June.

Ionia Bluegrass Country Shows - in Ionia. One a month, October through May.

MAMA's Coffee House Concert Series - in Bloomfield Hills. It's a nonprofit organization and a production of Michigan Acoustic Musicians Alliance (MAMA) and Birmingham Unitarian Church. Has open mic, General admission usually $12.

Rockin' On The Riverfront 2009 - Fridays July 24th to Sept 4th in Downtown Detroit. Presented by WCSX (94.7 FM) and Andiamo Restaurants.

Pontiac Live - summer concert series beginning July 17th at the Phoenix Plaza Amphitheater. Tickets start at $10.

Plymouth Music in the Park 2009 - Wednesdays at noon from June 17th through August 19th in Kellogg Park.

Razor Entertainment presents the third annual Jazz at the Library Series in Charlevoix, Michigan. Detroit News Teen Battle of the Bands - no longer exists, contact the Detroit News for info. It was an annual competition for 13 to 18 year olds who are in Metro Detroit bands of all genres, 10 to 12 bands in the finals, $10,000 worth of prizes.

Deadlines for Applications and Submissions To Perform Music at Events in Michigan

Sterlingfest Art & Music Fair - Deadline is usually before April 17th. Annual 3-Day event in Sterling Heights (north of Detroit) is held on the last weekend in July.

Dirt Fest - Deadline is usually before June 30th. Annual event held at Birch Run Expo Center (north of Flint) around August 2nd. Lots of bands, 4 stages, MANY different styles of music.

Arts, Beats & Eats - Deadline is usually before March 30th. Annual big-time festival held in Pontiac (north of Detroit) features over 200 music performances every Labor Day weekend.

Dally in the Alley - Deadline is before end of July. Send press packet along with contact information. Annual music/art event held in Detroit in early Sept.
