World-class ice carving professionals will take up their laser sharp ice tools and chain saws when the Village of Rochester Hills hosts a weekend of ice sculpting, shopping and dining. Nearly 25 entertaining and artistic ice sculptures will grace streets and parks.

April 24-26, 2009 (fri-sun): Chef's Challenge [Chef's Challenge for Challenge Mountain] at the Shanty Creek Resort in Bellaire (northwest lower peninsula). Chefs in Michigan compete for Bragging Rights & Notoriety. This is a professional chef, hot food competition and tasting featuring Michigan food products, wines and microbrews. In addition to the Chef’s Challenge competition, the weekend will feature cooking seminars and demonstrations, golf, fishing, kayaking, an ice-carving competition, vendors showcasing Michigan agriculture (second only to California in number of diverse food products), more. Challenge Mountain is the nation's only non-profit organization that provides adaptive recreation exclusive to the developmentally challenged, helping them achieve their maximum potential through outdoor theraputic recreation.
April 24-26, 2009 (fri-sun): Vermontville Maple Syrup Festival - 69th Annual in Vermontville (west of Lansing). Mid-America rides, talent show, arts and crafts, flea market, two parades, petting zoo, princess pageant, various displays, games, free entertainment and arm wrestling. Our syrup producers are located throughout the village selling syrup, candies, crème and the ever popular maple syrup cotton candy. Held annually on the last full weekend in April.
April 26, 2009 (sun): Lakeshore Blessing of the Bikes in Holland (West MI) at Ottawa County Fairgrounds. The 8th Annual Lakeshore Blessing of the Bikes is a gathering to start the riding season with a Blessing for a safe year, to promote a sense of community and fellowship among riders and to support local charities. Hundreds of motorcyclists and non-motorcyclists participate in the blessing. Live music, food and motorcycles of every color, size, shape, and brand make this event interesting for all attendees. Donation $5 per bike/vehicle.

June 13, 2009 (sat): 5th Annual Bikes & Bands for Shrine Children in Clio (north of Flint). Admission $5, 1pm to 1am. This year features BC's 1st Annual Rock n Roll Circus Concert. "The Elf Khurafeh Shrine's goal is to raise $30,000 and to have 1500 bikes and cars participate in the largest Scavenger Hunt Bike Ride." 11 live bands, all you can eat pig roast, bike show, burn out pit, aerial sky-diving show performance, more. This is a family friendly event.

June 27, 2009 (sat): Andy Ross Charity Motorcycle Ride in Trenton (south of Detroit). Annual motorcycle run hosted by the Trenton Firefighters and Police. Nearly 1,000 motorcycles show up to have a good time and support a good cause.

Festival is indoors at the Michael Baughman Theater on the campus of Jackson Community College. tickets are $15 to $27 per-performance, group rates available. Plans are under way to find a permanent site on which to build an outdoor stage with cover for the audience.

Our concours is by no means just a car show - it is an entire week of events that celebrate the lifestyle and legacy of our automotive heritage."
August 7-9, 2009 (fri-sun): Humungous Fungus Fest 2009 in Crystal Falls (U.P.). Free Admission. Annual festival features a Fest Parade, Mushroom Cook-off, Humungus Pizza, Strong Man Competition, Motocross races, live music, Street Dance, Pie Social, various tournaments, more. The Humungous Fungus might be the world's largest and oldest living organism. It covers 38 acres beneath an Iron County forest near the Wisconsin border. It is believed to be 1,500 to 10,000 years old and weigh about 100 tons.
August 7-16, 2009: Cheeseburger in Caseville - 11th Annual (Caseville is in Michigan's thumb). City is "transformed into Key North for this 10 days festival that celebrates the lifestyle and music made popular by Jimmy Buffett. Adults and kids alike will enjoy the music of over a dozen performers and bands as well as the opportunity to discover a variety of cheeseburgers and other great food". Beach Party, Fireworks, Golfing Under the Stars, Beautiful Baby Contest, Harbor & Campground Lights Display, more. This event also features a rather unusual parade: The Parade of Tropical Fools.
August 13-15, 2009 (thu-sat): Mendon Riverfest - 22nd anniversary in Three Rivers (Southwest MI). "Inflatable" games similar but different from last year, Free entertainment, children's activities, competitive events, 4th Annual Riverfest Idol, various vendors and a Fireworks display over the river. Held annually on third weekend in August.

TBA 2009: Annual 9-11 Memorial Run (Motorcycle Charity Run) in Oxford (north of Detroit). A Show of Patriotism - American Bikers Unite For Our Fallen Heroes on 9-11-01. Held rain or shine, $25 donation per bike. They also take a trip to New York on September 10th.
TBA 2009 (fri-sat): Pure Stock Muscle Car Drag Races (PSMCDR) in Stanton (middle lower peninsula). Annual event "for stock muscle cars that have few modifications, like when they rolled off the assembly line. This two-day race is held at the Mid-Michigan Motorplex drag strip. On the first day, drivers have nearly unlimited track time to test and tune their cars. There's a friendly, fun atmosphere here. Come race your car or enjoy watching the great matches."

Funky Ferndale Art Show and DIY ("Do It Yourself") Street Fair combine to bring national juried artists and local creative entrepreneurs in one downtown on one weekend. Art Show will feature over 100 juried artists and local foods, while DIY will feature over 50 creative entrepreneurs setting the example of how to "do it yourself". Since 1982, the Edelweiss Club of Grand Rapids has organized an annual Oktoberfest celebration at the Calder, with a beer tent, German music, dancing, authentic German food, wine and more. Our wish is to bring the excitement of the Munich Oktoberfest here to the Grand Rapids area.

Festival is held each year on the First Saturday of October.

TBA 2009: March of Dimes - Bikers for Babies Ride (motorcycle) in Grand Rapids area (West Mi) at US 131 Motorsports Park, Martin, MI. Rev up your engines and join March of Dimes at Bikers for Babies to help us give all babies a healthy start! Bikers will enjoy a 70-mile ride with food, silent auction, drag racing, a bike show and more. Event is presented by Farmers Insurance Group. The festival boasts over 100 maritime related vendors including lighthouse preservation groups, artists, authors and more. From Saginaw to Mackinaw, lighthouses will be open for tours and visits!

2009? Dia de Muertos (Dia De Los Muertos) in Mexicantown, Detroit. Celebrating the "Day of the Dead", honoring the lives of the deceased, to remember the dead and loved ones with respect. 13th Annual in 2007, no info in 2008 probably due to major construction in the area.

Just one of two options is required for Mike to post Great events or their updates:
Preferred: Event official web site or online information page. Supply website address (url), name of event and brief description.
Option 2: person in charge of the event has their contact info posted with listing. Supply contact info (that will be posted with listing) along with name of event, brief description.
ADD a Great Event in Michigan: send information in an Email → Click Here Do NOT Send Info in Email Attachments! Use normal text and no flyers. Emails with attachments are automatically deleted except for those in - or who ask to be in - Mike's Contact list.
Since there is no charge, there is no guarantee an event will be listed. Mike adds these in his spare time and first checks each listing for accuracy and interesting qualities.
